“Minecraft” alone is not enough information for a multiplayer plan. Java and Bedrock use different server ecosystems, and Mojang states that the two editions do not natively play together.
Java Edition groups
Java Edition multiplayer covers Windows, macOS, and Linux players running Java Edition. A useful post also identifies the game version and any server-side or client-side mods.

Bedrock Edition supports online crossplay among supported Bedrock platforms. The group still needs the world, Realm, or server plan, and console access to custom servers can differ from PC or mobile.

Do not hide compatibility in chat
Put the edition in the session title or opening description. Then add the version, world stage, mods or add-ons, and goal. Compatibility should be visible before a player requests a spot.
What to say about the world
- Fresh world or existing progression
- Survival, Creative, Hardcore, minigame, build, or boss goal
- Whether outside items or established characters are allowed
- Expected duration and voice plan
